Ventilation - maintain the correct temper
![]() |
Hot, damp and stagnant air is the worse thing you can have in your greenhouse. It causes pests and diseases to build up. Ventilating your greenhouse ensures a good supply of fresh air essential to healthy plant growing. The average temperature of the plants in your greenhouse is about 6 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature. It is therefore absolutely essential to keep the temperature down and shade plants or they will "burn". A tomato will develop a green tip if the temperature goes above 35 degrees. |

As hot air rises and leaves your greenhouse via the windows in the roof. Cooler air will replace it. To assure enough fresh air can get into your greenhouse, it is advisable to install a louvre vent in one of the bottom pares of glass. A slatted louvre is designed in such a way, as to allow fresh air in without causing a draft. This ensures a constant supply of fresh cool air to take the place of the hot damp air as it escapes. |

Automatic Window Opener

It is important to maintain a constant temperature in your greenhouse that suits your plants. You can adjust the temperature by opening and closing the windows but this can be difficult to do if you are not at home all day. One solution to this would be to install automatic window openers on all the windows in your greenhouse. They can be adjusted to open and close within a temperature range between 16 and 25 degrees. They operate by using the heat from the sun. As the black cylinder is heated the plantoil inside expands and pushes up a piston which opens the window. As the cylinder cools the piston closes the window. An environmentally friendly solution. No need to use electricity. Remember to remove the cylinder during the winter otherwise it might suffer frost damage. Univent automatic window opener with double spring
This window opener is the best choice for greenhouses with polycarbonate. A window with polycarbonate is not as heavy as a window with glass, and when the wind blows the Ventomax and Spiro cannot close the window, but Univent can using the double spring. Order Code - JAV01 |
